Question What do I need to do before I start driving? You must have a provisional license. You can apply at https://www.gov.uk/apply-first-provisional-driving-licence. The minimum age, which you can legally drive a car on public roads is 17. Until the day you pass the practical driving test you are not allowed to drive on your own. It is also worth while having an eyesight test to check that you meet the minimum eyesight standard for driving.

Question Can I take automatic driving lessons? Unfortunately, I only provide tuition in a manual car. However, if you pass your test in a manual, you can also drive an automatic on your licence. Passing your test in an automatic means you'll only be able to drive an automatic. If you decide you want to drive a manual later on, you will have to re-sit your driving test in a manual car.

Question How long is each lesson? I offer 1 hour and 2 hour lessons. If you do require an alternative time frame (i.e. 1.5hrs) please feel free to discuss this with me and I will do my best to cater to your needs.

Question Do I need to pass the Theory Test before I can start lessons? No. You can learn the theory whilst undergoing the practical. You must however, have passed your theory test prior to taking your practical test. If you need any help with revision for your theory test or access to books/apps please let me know as I am happy to help.

Question What type of vehicle will I be learning in? My car is a Audi A1, Sport Back, Black Edition. 1.6 Diesel. It is fitted with dual controls and dash camera (for additional saftey). It is small, easy to manoeuvre, has power steering and automatic lights/window wipers for ease. Above all, an easy car to learn in.

Question What will I need to bring on my first lesson? You must bring your provisional driving licence as I will need to see this. Dress comfortably with suitable shoes and bring your glasses should you wear them.

Question How do I book my 1st lesson? You can contact me via email at contactme@nikkisdrivingtuition.co.uk. My phone is silenced whilst instructing however, I will always get back to you and ask you a few questions about your requirements and driving ability. Should you wish to meet me first, that is absolutely fine. We can then schedule your first lesson. I will forward you an App invite to Total Drive where you can book and pay for your lessons. This App also has many other benefits such as driving syllabus progress, payment history, lesson reminders and reflective logs.

Question Will you pick me up from work/college? Yes, of course. Provided it is within our local area and agreed before the lesson.

Question How will I know how I'm getting on with my lessons? Your progress will be recorded and visible to you on the Total Drive App.

Question How many driving lessons will I need before I take my test? I understand that you want to learn how to drive in as few lessons as possible. You don't want to feel rushed but at the same time, don't want your tuition to drag on longer than necessary. This is why I deliver well structured lessons with pre-agreed clear objectives, therefore allowing progression to be made at your pace. DVSA states, on average, it takes around 45 hours of lessons to learn to drive, with an addition of 22 hours of practicing. But, don't take this to heart. Some drivers may need less, and some may need more.

Question What if I need to cancel a lesson? If you wish to cancel a lesson a minimum of 48 hours prior notice must be given. This gives me time to make your cancelled lesson available to another pupil. It may be due to illness or exams, whatever it is I understand, we can re-arrange to suit your needs.

Question Am I allowed to get additional practice with my relative/friends in their car? Yes. Additional practice is not essential however, you can take lessons with family/friends. They must be over the age of 21 and have a full driving licence for at least 3 years. Make sure L plates are visible on the front and rear of your vehicle and that you are insured to drive the car your practicing in.

Question Are there any other costs I need to plan for? You will need to pay for both your DVSA Theory and Practical Driving Test. Also, when taking your practical driving test 2 hours will need to be booked with me. This includes a 1 hour lesson prior to your test, use of the car during the test and driving home.
